Fabric Covered Box

Here is another of my aprons.  I really like this one!

When my girls were growing up, we chanced upon a lovely group of ladies at the local library who were quilters.  They held monthly meetings and we called ourselves the "Quilt Chat".
Not a fancy enough to be a Guild
or a busy enough to be a Bee.
We just got together and Chatted.

There was Japanese lady in the group who translated the directions for a "Japanese Fancy Fabric Box" and taught us how to make these.  It became the go-to gift for that year for Grandmas and others. . . and  a demonstration for 4-H.

Here a some pictures of those we still have at our house.

These could probably be classified as RECYCLING projects - as the materials are all stuff you usually throw away.  At some point this summer I will post a tutorial for these boxes.

Here is one I just recently made.
I used an antique button on top, from my Grandmother's Button box.

Happy July!

Apron #3

I am revealing these aprons one-at-a-time.
I wanted to give them to the person as a gift before I show everybody in the world.

This apron is for a lovely friend who helps lead the Ladies' group at our church.  I want her to have an apron that reminds her of our last year of study in the book of Psalms.

I guess we all need the reminder to cry to the Lord daily and often. . . and we need the reminder that He will hear our voice.

I also had so much fun making pretty embroidered flowers.

Making these aprons was so much fun!

(Thanks, so much, to my friend for her service to God as she serves His people!)

Apron #2

I started making these aprons (and some other little goodies I will show you later) to give as gifts.  I don't want to show you the specifics until the appropriate people have been gifted and surprised.

These are SO FUN to make!!  I make little quilts to use as pockets. I get to be CreATive in a small way AND finish some projects AND use up stash!!  I am having SO MUCH FUN!!

My Administrative Assistant for my math class is a faithful friend and makes my class run so smoothly. She is also an AMAZING cook.  So I made her a red gingham apron.  I fiddled with my stash and embroidery thread and came up with this:

Psalm 34 is one of my favorite Psalms - and The Lord is sweeter than anything we can cook in the kitchen.  Just a little reminder on an apron.

'Nother Project

This last week I cut out a dress coat for my daughter. Christmas present, promised to her for Christmas 2009.

It took me awhile to cut it out even once I set to work,
because I decided to line it with this amazing brocade.

I had the pattern all laid out for 2 or 3 days, but was afraid to cut into the beautiful fabric. Courage and Bravery won, and the whole thing is cut out and ready to go. Cold enough this week that she may actually NEED a warm coat.

Time to wind some bobbins and get going.
